It's Not Easy Being Green...or is it?

While Kermit might have issues with being green, the world disagrees. Eco-friendly, sustainable, green design...whatever phrase you prefer, being kind to mother earth is what's in this season...and hopefully every season to come! Sustainability has come into play when it comes to fashion, architecture, interior design, the automotive industry, etc. Bringing eco-friendly materials into the home might frighten people as they conjur up images of burlap potato sack-covered furniture and grass cloth walls. On the contrary, many current earth friendly products are just as appealing as their counterparts.

Summer Must Haves...Outdoor Barbeque

Hey everyone! Fourth of July weekend is the perfect time to throw a fun outdoor barbeque for family and friends. Check out some of my favorite sources to make any outdoor occasion unforgettable!

My favorite place to stock up on quirky tableware for both indoor and out is Global Table on Sullivan St in NYC. You can pick up stylish plastic plates (like the ones I used in a recent photoshoot) @ http://www.globaltable.com/

Debemnhams of London has the cutest little pink and black kettle barbeque perfect for any small outdoor space in the city.

Take a look at the outdoor furniture @ www.frontgate.com. They have a yellow and white polka-dot lounge set that is to die for!!!

Have a Safe and Happy Holiday! Love, Laura

Scalamandres' Colony Collection fabric in Laguna (bottom right) would be a perfect accent. Check out all of scalamndres' fabrics at www.scalamandre.com.

2005 Charity Events

Take a look at how I supported my favorite charity DIFFA (Design Industry Fighting For AIDS) in the 2005 season. Last August, I paired up with The Home Depot at Dining by Design in Easthampton. My creation was a glam garden party with a "You can Do it" attitude. The 11'x11' dining showcase started with a basic pergola built from 2x4's purchased at the Home Depot. Next, a ceiling and curtain of crystals (also purchased at The Home Depot) added lots of sparkle. Phillipe Stark ghost chairs and a shiny white table were the perfect backdrop for stylish pattened leather toolbelts complete with garden tools, seeds, a paintbrush, and other Home Depot goodies. The centerpiece, a lucite box filled with soil, hydrengas and hot pink dipped paintbrushes were the perfect quarky compliment to the refined Hermes china.

In September I participated in another DIFFA event. This event, the Launch of the new SKYY VODKA 90 called for selected designers to create a bar to be showcased at the launch party. The bars and all accompaning items were then auctioned off to support the charity. In this event LDD went all white with a dazzling studded leather bar and a "Reach for the Skyy" theme. A graphic screen set the scene for a flock of perching ceramic birds. Diamonds sat on the mirror topped bar with lots of Skyy 90 Martinis. The whole look was pulled together with botanical jars filled with feathers, eggs, and a birds nest. Thanks for a great year DIFFA!

Home Sweet Home

Hey ya'll take a look at the new pic's of my apartment. I am very proud of the final results and am happy to give everyone a sneak peak of the project before the images are added to my website.
Check out my Living Room. Crisp white furniture pops off the sunny yellow walls. Multicolor prism prints flanked by sleek white sconces (A Paris shopping trip find) finish the far focal wall. The entry walls are covered in an Osbourne and Little floral and a bright blue headdress is the first unexpected twist to greet visitors. The dining room became a fun and funky solarium with the help of a traditional wallpaper, a zebra skin rug and
a chic antique store table. The lush hibiscus trees offset the bold Basquiat to finish the room off. In the master bedroom, a beautiful antique bed sits atop a white flokati rug. An ornate chandelier and a fun pin up girl print create the perfect mix of traditional and modern. Outside, I am fortunate enough to have a wonderful rooftop terrace. We outfitted the space with a rustic picnic table and juxstaposed that with Phillipe Stark ghost chairs. The whole picture is framed off with a beautiful view of the New York skyline and the Empire State Building.
